ABOUT
I’ve spent my working life in the charity sector, where I’ve held a variety of senior leadership roles. For twenty-eight years I was part of L’Arche, a worldwide organisation where people with and without learning disabilities live, work and share life together. For the nine years that I was Director, I diversified the services offered as well as the income stream, and also launched an exciting strategy for future growth.
Later, I was CEO for seven years of a London-based charity called the Irish Chaplaincy whose main areas of work are with prisoners, Travellers and seniors. The organisation had been on the brink financially when I arrived and I managed to double the income while I was there and to launch several new projects.
I am now using my skills and experience to assist others, both one-to-one as a coach or mentor, and as a group facilitator. I am an associate member of the Association for Coaching.
I live in Canterbury with my wife, Yim Soon who I met at L’Arche and we have three grown up children. Yim Soon and I recently spent a year walking, and this included the Camino in Spain, the Lycian Way in Turkey, and the Way of Francis in Italy. As well as being a walker I am a writer and a musician and have been most fortunate that in all my areas of work I have been able to share my love of walking, writing and singing. I have had the privilege of playing guitar to groups of Travellers in prison, to older Irish in care homes and to always-appreciative members of L’Arche communities. I enjoy doing regular reflections for BBC Radio 2’s ‘Pause for Thought,’ and a recent one is: Such listening can save a life
I have had three books published:
Looking Ahead with Hope- stories of humanity, wonder and gratitude in a time of uncertainty
The Universe Provides- finding miracles and inspiration in unexpected places
Another Day in Paradise- stories of transformation from the Camino and other places
